Background |
Arch Luther |
My father was
a newspaper editor, but his hobby was woodworking--he produced period furniture, mostly
in mahogany. I have carried on the family tradition of woodworking as a hobby.
I learned the basics of furniture building from
my father, but I made my career in engineering (television equipment and computers).
On retiring, I decided to make a business of my hobby, concentrating on the use
of redwood. Living in a redwood forest on the coast of northern California, I have
great respect for this wood and where it comes from. I have my own sawmill and most
of the lumber for my furniture is milled right here. For more about this wood and how
I handle it, look at About Redwood.

About My Furniture
I use redwood as my primary material. My furniture
is designed to display the beautiful color and grain patterns of the wood to best advantage.
I never use stain in finishing my pieces; generally I use Varathane Diamond Finish, which
is a water-based transparent varnish that does not alter the natural color of the wood.
This finish is hard and durable and resists most household liquids. If the finish does
become damaged, it is easily repaired by a light sanding and another application of the same
product.

Shipping Furniture
My products are made to your
order. It usually takes 4 to 6 weeks for completion of your items.
Many of my products are large and heavy and I do not want to go to
the trouble of packing and shipping them. Because of this, I sell only
to customers in Sonoma County, California where I can deliver the product or
the customer can pick them up.
